Many aspiring online business owners planning their business website, ask:
Is it worth making your own website from scratch?
Granted this is a question from those who know how to code. Even if one knows how to code well, most who are using WordPress in their businesses, even if they are adept at coding, use the WordPress CMS platform and then, since it is open-source, expand upon it based on their skill level.
Over the past 15 years, I cannot believe how many times I have told friends with great products to use WordPress for marketing and they didn’t. Instead, with only a marginal understanding of code, they would choose to create their own website from scratch!
Matter how hard I tried I could not convince these individuals that it is very difficult to code your website better than WordPress (out-of-the-box) using plugins when necessary.
Unfortunately, these individuals never created a website likely because the perceived difficulty of the “barrier to entry” kept them from ever getting started.
This is why I encourage anyone who is going to start a website and use the WordPress platform, to start out very slow.
First, create a simple website, and then you can expand your functionality and design as you become familiar with the CMS
platform and all the tools available to you in the back office.

Sure, if someone is a coding genius and wants to take on the task, but these people I am referring to had minimal coding experience, and quite honestly, matter how good one is at code, I have heard that WordPress is not the easiest coding platform, so is it necessary or even worth it to code your own website? Personally, I don’t see the reason, as your time can be better spent, tweaking and perfecting your WordPress website.
Best of all, in the back office of WordPress, there is an option under appearance to edit the code on your site. So if you are comfortable with code this is one place you can make changes. A warning will appear if you attempt to change WordPress code but that is simply to make sure the code is not corrupted inadvertently.
With so many perks incorporated into the WordPress platform, coding your own site is a decision you would have to make based on your personal coding expertise and your passion for writing code from scratch rather than using the WordPress out-of-the-box template.
Using the WordPress template and making modifications before implementation is definitely the answer if you want to “keep it simple” while not compromising the functionality and design of your website.
The following questions are from many people searching on Google. From what I have seen, many of these individuals who have this question have doubt because of the information they received from knowledgeable coding professionals who do have good intentions.
Is it hard to make a website from scratch?
This question truly depends on who is asking the question. For a professional WordPress developer or any top-notch developer, the answer is no. These are the individuals who are writing the code!
This question is very likely originating from weekend warriors who know a lot but maybe not enough about code. As one might figure from what has been stated to this point, there is no reason at all to start a website from scratch, granted if you achieve this task it will have been a great accomplishment.
So coding with Python, HTML, CSS, Javascript, or Ruby would be a big task but that ultimately is an individual decision. Is it better to code your own website? … that will depend on the individual for all the reasons previously noted.
Is it better to build a website from scratch?
This is a very similar question, and to say if it is better or not will depend on your coding skills and overall knowledge about website creation, functionality, and design. There are many excellent coders who are specialized in various sub-niches of coding. With this being the case, whether or not it is better or worth it to build a website from scratch depends on your level of IT education.

Should I build my own website or pay someone?
This decision comes down to two things. Your ability to build your own website based on the time or skills you have and if you have the money to hire a developer to do it for you. The most important question matter which approach you decide to take is will you be using the WordPress CMS platform. If you hire someone and the plan is not to use WordPress you will want to know why, as there are many developers who work with WordPress.
So…aside from the cost of a domain name and a very inexpensive hosting plan with HostGator, the free resources you will have at your fingertips will allow you to build your own WordPress website. Think about it!!!!! No one telling you what to do and if you have a question, there are more than enough forums, PDFs, and other materials online to answer your questions.
By far, the best resource will be YouTube as there are WordPress videos that cover any question you might have, even if you were to need help with code on your website!
